Our Church today:

Our Vicar, the Rev. Philip Ball, and the members of the PCC are currently striving as a priority to increase the size and age range of our weekly congregations. The types of services are becoming more varied and a closer relationship is being developed with the teachers and the pupils of the village school and thereby with the parents of the children. The use of appropriate music from different eras in our services in order to ensure that there is always something for everyone who is there to really enjoy and feel comfortable with may yet turn out to be the catalyst which brings every age group in our community into church at some time or another.

We would have no chance of surviving financially if we depended purely on the collections taken at our services so we endeavour to balance our books by organising a whole series of fund-raising events throughout each year. Most of these are now long-established fixtures in the calendar and we find that the people here are almost without exception warmly supportive of our efforts, even though many of them are never seen in church.

Finally, our Benefice friends and partners, the parishes of Hook and Rawcliffe, share with us the “special link” relationship which we all hold, on behalf of the Diocese of Sheffield, with the parish of Annen, in the German Diocese of Hattingen-Witten. Airmyn’s Memorial Hall has been used as a residential base for visiting groups of teenage German confirmation candidates from Annen, usually led by the redoubtable Rev. Claus Humbert, on at least 10 occasions in late March or April since the year 2000.
